Cornerstone Foundation closing

The Cornerstone Foundation here in Knoxville, headed by former city director and attorney Laurens Tullock, is closing its doors on Sept. 4 after operating 20 years. The Foundation has been funded by Rodney and Dell Lawler.

The announcement stated that Cornerstone, which has funded many projects in East Tennessee impacting downtown development, disadvantaged kids and community leadership development, was never meant to be permanent.

Knox greenways have new driver

Tim Hester, former city manager of Norris, has been hired as the new greenways coordinator for the city of Knoxville. He started to work this week.

Brian Hann, active chair of the city greenway commission, praised the choice, saying, “I look forward to seeing him in action.”

Rogero lags on MPC choices

Has Mayor Rogero forgotten the Metropolitan Planning Commission? Or does she care?

It is now 10 months since three city vacancies occurred on MPC (starting July 1, 2015). Those are the city seats held by former Knoxville Vice Mayor Jack Sharp, Michael Kane and MPC vice chair Bart Carey.
